INGEST METHODS OF BATCO

VHS tape or DVD or playback from camcorders played over composite video via Hotronics and recorded into the ImageServer gives the lowest quality recording and requires an operator to either push the stop button or edit the result later.  Quality of the original is not preserved.

DVD played over s-video, as above, gives slightly better quality, but still not as good as the original.

Recorded live from Board of Selectmen using Broadcast Pix mixer to ImageServer using Serial Digital Interface (SDI) to the ImageServer gives very good quality, except that the lighting is not optimal and the files are compressed (loosing small details) into MPEG2.

Using the HCR-HC1 camcorder video and audio are sent via firewire (1394) to a hard drive (FS4) where the data is stored on DV25 files. This is the highest quality recording (no losses) and play at 25Mbps.  This requires no conversion process and is quite streamlined.

Using the HCR-SR7 camcorder collects video and audio onto a hard drive. When the camcorder is plugged into the computer (BatCoPC) those MPEG-2 files are ready to be burned onto a DVD, or we can convert them into MPG files for the ImageServer.

The following methods preserve exactly the quality of an original AND can be done from anywhere in the world over the internet.

Take just the Visual Object files (VOB) from a DVD using a computer. Then the files are converted into an MPEG file and uploaded via FTP to the ImageServer.  Such files can be uploaded from anywhere in the world.

An image file of a DVD (ISO) can similarly be downloaded with FTP, converted with ISO Buster, and uploaded.

Bulletins and public service announcements (PSA) can be created using the Womble MPEG Video Wizard (MVW) and produced as MPEG files, uploaded to the ImageServer where they are played.

Download DV25 files directly to the ImageServer.

Any file recorded on or uploaded to the ImageServer can be downloaded to BatCoPC, converted to VOB files, and written to a DVD.
